Parent Handbook

Welcome to Radiant Faith Academy!

It is our pleasure to welcome you and your family to our learning center. We believe in supporting you and your family by providing high quality child care. We are excited about the opportunity to be involved and share with you in the development and growth of your child.

It has been our pleasure to plan, prepare and provide services to the children and their families. We understand the importance and rapid growth of these early years. We believe Radiant Faith is a wonderful resource to support and enhance this time of development.

We have come to know and see that your experience with us will be enjoyable and meaningful as we work together in educating our children for life.

1 ARRIVAL - DISMISSAL OF CHILDREN
If the person picking up the child is unfamiliar to the teachers and/or director, proof of identity with picture will be necessary to dismiss the child. Child safety is our goal. We will not release a child to anyone who is not authorized on the enrollment form. You must notify the director and/or teacher in writing if someone other than the authorized person will pick your child up.

You must bring your child to the classroom, tell the teacher you are here, then sign the child in on the designated forms at each classroom. You must sign your full name and the time your child arrived.

When you pick your child up you must go to the classroom, tell the teacher you are picking up your child for the day then sign the child out on the designated forms with your full name and the time you are leaving.

2 DAILY ACTIVITIES
Classroom schedules of daily activities is posted on the door of each classroom. Calendars and bulletins are published monthly with important dates and information. Please take the time to review this information.

Everything that occurs in the classroom is curriculum. Teachers serve as facilitators, allowing children to have a sense of autonomy, as they learn to make choices and regulate their own behavior. This environment encourages children to be physically and mentally active, thereby participating in constructing their own knowledge.

Since children go through a natural sequence of development, the teachers use the children's interests as a focus for activities and experiences. Schedules in the classroom are flexible and vary allowing the children to participate in classroom activities as well as in music/movement class and outdoor play. We believe outdoor play is an essential experience for children. For this reason we strive to provide each child with an adequate amount of time outdoors, running, jumping, climbing, and using their bodies.

3 APPROPRIATE CLOTHING
Every child is required to have proper clothing for both indoors and outdoors play. Think of your child comfort and freedom to get messy. Provide them with simple clothing that is free of complicated fastenings, is washable, sturdy, inexpensive, temperature appropriate and allows for freedom of movement. Tennis shoes are safe for play; cowboy boots, sandals, and fancy Sunday shoes are not appropriate.

All removable clothing must be plainly marked with the child's name.

Classroom Procedures

You will be notified in writing at least two weeks in advance of changes in Holiday schedules and school closings.

Regular weekly and part-time weekly enrollees will be required to pay the total weekly tuition fee. The Center will not make any deduction for holidays within a scheduled week.

School Closings-Unscheduled

School closings due to inclement weather such as snowstorm, ice storms, etc. will be announced via radio. Please listen to (1120 AM dial) or Channel 5 ( FM dial) radio for unscheduled closings.

The Center will not make any deductions for a one-day closing (snow day, ice storm etc.) within a scheduled week. We will do our best to remain open during mild snow days.

HEALTH AND WELFARE POLICIES

1 Physical Examination
Upon initial enrollment of your child into the program, evidence of his/her having a physical examination within the last six- (6) months must be provided to the Center. If the child has not had a physical examination within this specified time period, one must be obtained. Forms for this purpose are available through the Center.

2 Illness
If a child show evidence of an infection or a communicable disease, a member of the staff will contact the parent immediately for pick-up of that child. The child must be picked up within 60 minutes from the time of the call. The child will not be permitted to return to the Center until it has been cleared through a physician (a physician's statement is required by the Center). We must protect the other children and staff from the spread of infections.

We ask that the parent observe their child before bringing him/her to the Center. Children who become ill while the program is in operations will be isolated in a supervised area while parents are being notified and you will be expected to pick up the child within 60 minutes from the time of the call.

This ruling refers to elevated temperatures, diarrhea, impetigo, head lice, severe colds and body rashes. The child must be free of illness and/or medicated for 24 hours before returning to the Center.

3 Medications
Only medication prescribed by the child's physician or over the counter medicine with a written request form from a doctor will be given (this includes vitamins). Such medication must be labeled with the child's name and specific directions concerning the frequency and the dosage to give to the child. Parents must sign a medication release form allowing the administering of any type of medication.

A signed release form is for a limited time period and must be renewed as needed. Chronic conditions will b evaluated on an individual basis.

4 Accidents
In the event of a minor accident and/or minor injury while on the premises, the staff will render the necessary first aid measures to the child. Incidents requiring treatment, which calls for more than a typical antiseptic and/or bandage, will be referred for medical attention by staff along with notification of parent.
